Second Gear, Asheville’s answer for affordable adventure gear, clothing, footwear, and accessories, invites the community to a celebration of 15 years operating in West Asheville. Serving Asheville’s outdoor community since 2004, Second Gear offers a market for consignors to receive excellent rates for “recycling’ their lightly-used kayaks, canoes, bicycles, outdoor clothing, hiking boots, and camping equipment. Discerning outdoor enthusiasts can purchase quality used gear without paying full retail prices.
The celebration will take place at 444 Haywood Road in West Asheville on Saturday, June 15th during regular business hours from 10am until 6pm. The event will feature deep discounts on merchandise, giveaways, free food and beverages for customers, and product exhibitions from store vendors.
Russ Towers, Second Gear Founding Partner stated “Second Gear’s founding mission was community-focused and centered around a consignment-based business model that relied on the community to populate the store with their gear and clothing. We introduced the original store in the spring of 2004 through an open house and sidewalk cook-out, and the product has been coming in continuously ever since. Most of the $3,000,000 paid out to over 9,000 consignors over 15 years are dollars being ‘recycled’ throughout the Asheville area economy.”
Along with used gear, Second Gear also carries a selection of new items including guidebooks, maps, disc golf equipment, climbing gear, and an array of dealer samples priced below suggested retail. Second Gear is located in the Historic Mardis Building at 444 Haywood Rd in West Asheville, just off of I-240. A free parking lot is located behind the building.
